Why Donating to our Lake Association Matters
Donating to the Child, Girl, Woman Lakes Area Association (CGWLAA) is a wonderful way to support the vital work we do to protect and enhance the health, beauty, and safety of the Woman Lake chain and its surrounding environment. Your contribution can directly impact our key programs.
Here's how your donation helps our programs:
Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) Program:
Prevention: Funding helps support efforts to prevent new AIS introductions, such as watercraft inspection programs at public launches, educational initiatives, and community awareness campaigns.
Monitoring: Your donation aids in ongoing monitoring efforts to detect new AIS infestations early, allowing for quicker and more effective response. This includes volunteer training for AIS detectors and professional surveys.
Control/Management: When AIS are found, donations can help fund control measures like targeted treatments or removal efforts to minimize their impact on native ecosystems and water quality.
Aquatic Wildlife Management:
Loon Conservation: This program is dedicated to protecting the iconic loons of the Woman Lake chain. Your donation can support loon survey studies, habitat protection (especially nesting sites), and educational outreach to promote loon-friendly practices among lake users.
Habitat Preservation: Funds contribute to efforts that maintain and restore healthy aquatic habitats for all native wildlife, benefiting fish, birds, and other species. This includes promoting shoreline restoration and reducing pollution.
Education and Advocacy: Donations help CGWLAA educate the community about responsible interactions with aquatic wildlife and advocate for policies that protect these valuable resources.
Other Programs Contributing to Long-Term Health, Beauty, and Safety:
Water Quality Monitoring: Supporting regular water testing to track nutrient levels, clarity, and overall lake health.
Fisheries Management: Contributing to collaborative efforts with the DNR to maintain healthy fish populations through monitoring, stocking initiatives, and habitat improvement.
Navigational Safety: Helping to install and maintain navigational aids, educate boaters on safe practices, and support the Water Safety Patrol.
Shoreline Buffer and Restoration: Providing resources for programs that encourage naturalized shorelines, which are crucial for water quality and wildlife habitat.
Community Engagement and Education: Enabling the association to produce newsletters, host educational events, and organize volunteer opportunities that foster a sense of shared responsibility for the lakes.
